Student Office Assistants
JOB TITLE: Shriver Center Student Office Assistant
ESTIMATED HOURS PER WEEK, PER STUDENT: approximately 8-20 hours
HOURS: Must be available for some of all of the following:
Mondays through Thursdays 12-2: (or similar)
Fridays: 8:30-4
SEMESTER(S): Fall 2019 semester (potential to continue in the Spring)
RATE OF PAY: minimum wage or work study disbursement
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Shriver Center’s Office Supervisor, student assistants will provide front desk administrative support, greet students, answer phones, provide high quality customer service, and other administrative functions such as making copies, scheduling appointments, special projects, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greet visitors, answer questions about the Shriver Center, programs, etc.
- Answer incoming telephone calls, answer questions, or direct the calls to proper sources within the Shriver Center
- Make copies, send faxes, prepare and type documents from rough draft (as needed)
- Schedule appointments using google calendar and send confirmation emails for student appointments through UMBCWorks
- Assist Shriver Center program staff with various duties
- Assist with Shriver Center van procedures: van training, key sign-in/sign-out procedures, van locations, gas monitoring, etc.)
- Occasionally represent the Shriver Center at Orientation and Admissions events
- Prepare correspondence mailings, emails, errands, and other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Student(s) must be a current UMBC student
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Strong work ethic, dependable, and punctual
- Good phone etiquette
- Outstanding attention to details
- Must have the ability to work independently and/or as a team member
- Must have a strong customer service orientation, the ability to use good judgement, and exercise discretion
- Professional demeanor, self-motivated and flexible
- Strong keyboarding skills, working knowledge of Microsoft office suite
- Working knowledge of basic office equipment and machines
- Ability to communicate and work well with a diverse staff and other students
- Eligibility for Work-Study through Financial Aid preferred but not required
- Participation in Shriver Center program(s) preferred but not required
