Celebrating TWO long-time Shriver Center Community Engaged Learning Leaders, Emmanuella Osei and Nardos Kebede.


Recently, Emmanuella Osei was selected as the Researcher of the Week for investigating food insecurity at UMBC. Continuing leadership beyond The Shriver Living Learning Community, Emmanuella serves as co-leader of Student Ambassadors through The Shriver Center’s Community Engaged Learning (CEL). Emmanuella organizes UMBC CEL Students to host Scholars from Commodore John Rodgers Elementary/Middle School who are awarded an engaging experience to UMBC for positive community behavior and scholastic achievement. Commodore Collegiates are Pre-K through 8th Grade students, 2 Scholars per grade who are joined by their family members and teachers. These visits occur on the 1st Friday of the month, 9am-1pm.  For more info on Emmanuella’s research, visit

Nardos Kebede was selected as Rangel Graduate Fellow! Nardos serves as the Student Coordinator for the Sisters Academy of Baltimore, an independent, faith-based, middle school for girls in grades 5 – 8 located in southwest Baltimore whose mission is to empower students to become agents of transformation in their families, communities, and society.
