PAID Service-Learning Leadership Positions!

The Shriver Center has 4 Service-Learning Intern positions open for the Fall 2010 semester. Interns play a pivotal role in The Shriver Center's Service-Learning Program, which places nearly 600 UMBC students each year at service sites. Service-Learning Interns are student leaders who aspire to take on a more challenging role to lead various service sites. Open positions:College Gardens Youth Program Service-Learning Intern #1 – Tutor children in academics and coordinate educational, artistic, and recreational activities for this after school program. The Intern drives the group to the site and leads the activities on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:15pm-5:45p.m. • College Gardens Youth Program Service-Learning Intern #2 – Tutor children in academics and coordinate educational, artistic, and recreational activities for this after school program. The Intern drives the group to the site and leads the activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15pm-5:45p.m. • College Night Mentoring Program Service-Learning Intern – Assist adolescent participants of The Choice Program with academics and development of positive social skills. Intern coordinates educational and recreational activities for the program on Mondays from 5pm-8:15pm. • Adult Literacy Program Service-Learning Intern – Provide one-on-one tutoring to adults in a broad range of subjects, ranging from literacy skill development to math skill building, and GED preparation. Intern drives the group to the site on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8:30pm. Please note: If you are interested in this position, but not available on Tuesdays/Thursdays, please indicate your interest on the application and the evenings when you would be available to visit the site from 5-8:30pm during the week. Benefits: Each S-L Intern receives a $300-750 stipend for the semester, and a Service-Learning Leadership notation on their transcript with their enrollment in the 096 Practicum.
