Community-Based Learning: Paving the Way For Change!

Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland.  Presented in partnership with the Baltimore Collegetown Network and Maryland Campus Compact, it will be attended by approximately 300 students and faculty from Maryland colleges and universities.

Many of you know this event originated at UMBC.  Solutions Through Service was held on April 12, 2008, and was sponsored by UMBC's Office of Undergraduate Education and the Baltimore Collegetown Network.  It was planned and implemented by the 2007-08 members of the Shriver Living Learning Center.  The event has since tripled in size; the SLCE Planning Committee is now comprised of my counterparts at institutions of higher education throughout Maryland.  It travelled to the University of Baltimore (2009), Towson University (2010), and Stevenson University (2011).

The conference aims to:
·         Explore successful service-learning, community service and civic engagement best practices, benefiting students, faculty and community stakeholders.
·         Strengthen the capacity of Maryland campuses to create effective, sustainable community partnerships.
·         Collaborate, network and share ideas with students, faculty, staff and community partners throughout Maryland.
·         Deepen awareness around transformational learning and social change.

We are seeking  proposals for dynamic workshops that will address the following themes:  Academic Service-Learning, Community Partnerships, Campus Community Service Initiatives, Issues in Our Communities, Student Led Community Service Initiatives, Building a Social Justice Leadership Toolkit, and Career Building for Students and Practitioners.  Submit your proposal online now!

Proposals are due no later than Friday, January 20, 2012 at 5 pm.  You will find a PDF version attached;  however, proposals should be submitted through http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2012SLCE

Please send any questions regarding the RFP to Workshop Committee Co-chair Shawntay Stocks at sstocks@carrollcc.edu.
