Request For Proposals for Local Conference
Community-Based Learning: Paving the Way For Change!
The conference aims to:
· Explore successful service-learning, community service and civic engagement best practices, benefiting students, faculty and community stakeholders.
· Strengthen the capacity of Maryland campuses to create effective, sustainable community partnerships.
· Collaborate, network and share ideas with students, faculty, staff and community partners throughout Maryland.
· Deepen awareness around transformational learning and social change.
We are seeking proposals for dynamic workshops that will address the following themes: Academic Service-Learning, Community Partnerships, Campus Community Service Initiatives, Issues in Our Communities, Student Led Community Service Initiatives, Building a Social Justice Leadership Toolkit, and Career Building for Students and Practitioners. Proposals are due no later than Friday, January 20, 2012 at 5 pm. You will find a PDF version attached; however, proposals should be submitted through http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2012SLCE

○ “Advocacy in Action: A Primer,” co-presented by William Joyner, SGA Vice President for Student Organizations and co-founder of QUMBC, UMBC’s first student organization dedicated to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community.
○ “Teaming Up with the ‘Other’: Breaking Down Barriers Together,” co-presented by Language, Literacy, and Culture (LLC) Ph.D. students Ian Brown and Uzma Rashid.
○ “Animals, Earth, and You!” co-presented by UMBC student Yasmin Radbod
○ “Launching a Baltimore College Peace Network: Starting our Journey Together,” co-presented by Shriver Peaceworker Program Director Joby Taylor
