Position Summary

The Annie E. Casey Foundation is a private charitable organization dedicated to helping build better futures for disadvantaged children in the United States. The primary mission of the Foundation is to foster public policies, human service reforms, and community supports that more effectively meet the needs of today’s vulnerable children and families. The Foundation distributes approximately $150 million annually in grants to organizations that help states, cities, and neighborhoods improve the life outcomes of these children and families.

Job Summary:

To further its mission and to bolster its commitment to children and families, Casey offers time-limited internships to college and graduate students interested in pursuing careers in philanthropy, human services, public policy or related field. The primary purpose is to enhance the educational development with entry-level experience in the role of philanthropy.

The Human Resources Intern reports directly to the Director/HR-Grantmaking. The Director is a management level position and is responsible for all the administration of HR policies and procedures.  Additionally, the Director is also responsible for encouraging and supporting a work environment that exemplifies the mission and values of the Foundation in a fair and equitable manner.

The Foundation is currently seeking an Intern to work 24 hours per week in a non-exempt paid position.  This internship will give a student the opportunity to learn and grow while applying classroom theory to the workplace.

Position Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

The Human Resources Intern’s work will be challenging and diverse in the tasks and responsibilities assigned. The selected intern will be given specific projects with designated timeframes to meet and produce deliverables that are important to the department’s success. These projects are:

  • Paid Time Off: research paid time off (PTO) plans at other Foundations and non-profits organizations. Develop options for a plan for the Foundation based on findings.
  • Scanning HR files: take existing paper hr files and scan to electronic files.
  • Position Descriptions: Assist the HR Director with the position description project. Identify positions that do not have a position description. Identify positions that have an outdated position description.  Assist in redesign of the format.
  • Organizational Charts: Develop organizational charts for each unit in grant making. Devise a plan how to circulate to new employees and existing staff.

Additionally, the intern will perform routine HR administrative work as needed.

Position Prerequisites

Qualifications:

The ideal applicant will have a 3.0 GPA. Must have demonstrated excellent research skills, as well as writing skill
