Application Instructions

A complete application to the fellowship requires the following:

  • A formal application (paper or web-based form) including contact information for two letters of recommendation
  • A Peace Corps Description of Service (DOS)
  • Complete academic transcripts
  • Unofficial GRE scores, should your program require them
  • A personal statement

You may choose to submit your complete application either electronically (a mix of online form and email) or via paper mail.

Electronic Application Submission Instructions

The electronic formal application form can be found here. Please note: there are currently no options available to submit your DOS, transcripts, GRE scores, or personal statement via the electronic form, thus these should be separately emailed to pwapplication@umbc.edu.

All materials submitted via email should be attached in a standard format, i.e. Microsoft Word or PDF. The body of the email should contain the applicant’s name and a reference to materials attached to the message. Please do not paste materials directly into the body of the email.

*Please note that in the past hotmail email accounts have rejected emails from UMBC addresses, which has disrupted communication about application materials. Please use a non-hotmail email address if at all possible to avoid these problems.

Paper Application Submission Instructions

A paper application is available but not preferred. If you are unable to apply online, please email pwapplication@umbc.edu for a PDF printable copy of the application. All hard copy application materials including a printed copy of the paper application, DOS, transcripts, GRE scores, and personal statement should be mailed to:

The Shriver Peaceworker Program
Attn: Meghann Shutt
The Shriver Center
University of Maryland Baltimore County
1000 Hilltop Circle
Baltimore, MD 21250

Application Timeline

The submission deadline is January 15th. Materials should be postmarked by January 15th for full consideration. In the case of materials being sent from overseas, please communicate any anticipated delays to Peaceworker staff via email if possible.

Post Application Interviews

You will be contacted for a phone interview if your application is still in consideration after the first round of reviews. These interviews are an opportunity to discuss your interests and fit with the program in more detail and to offer more information on possible service opportunities.

*Please note that these requests for interviews may be made via email. In the past, hotmail email accounts have rejected emails from UMBC addresses, which has disrupted communication about the application process. Please use a non-hotmail email address if at all possible to avoid these problems.
