Internship & Cooperative Education

Each year, The Shriver Center places nearly 1,200 UMBC students in internship and cooperative education experiences in over 500 public and private organizations in the Baltimore/Washington area and abroad. These professional practice programs are a major resource for employers in the region and an excellent training ground for students. By combining classroom study with on-the-job experience, students earn academic credit, grasp the link between theory and practice, and learn valuable job-related habits and skills. Shriver Center co-op and internship students consistently earn exemplary reviews from host organizations, often followed by an offer of full-time employment when they graduate.

The Value of Internships and Co-ops:

  • Obtain access to highly motivated students to fill staffing needs
  • Cultivate recruitment pipeline for full-time employees
  • Time gains enable employees to achieve higher level tasks
  • Inject enthusiasm and fresh ideas
  • Prepare tomorrow's workforce
